I’d like to express my deepest appreciation for sponsoring me. I applied for the scholarship in 2017 after knocking on many doors. I had been at Wits for 3 years and every year was a struggle with regards to funding for textbooks, accommodation, food and toiletries. In my second year, South Point would even lock me outside of their premises because my rent would not be paid on time.
I received the scholarship early 2018 and to say things took a great turn would be an understatement. A burden was lifted off my shoulders. For the first time in 3 years my only worry was my academics. You can even see the change in my marks in the 2018 transcript. These are the same marks that landed me a job at Adams & Adams where I am currently working at as a Candidate Attorney. With the funding, I was able to stay at the school residence, buy textbooks, toiletries and even formal wear for interviews. Anyone will tell you how expensive job hunting is but having a scholarship made things better because I would save some money to be able to travel to interviews.
A special thank you to Monique and her team for the excellent mentorship during my time with OMT. Your contributions made a difference. It was nice to know that there was someone who genuinely cared about the student and went above and beyond. Thank you for the check ups and for always keeping us grounded and reminding us that the end goal is to graduate and to do better for our ourselves, our families and our communities.
Lastly, to the Trust, I am a firm believer that every South African should have access to a high standard of education at all levels. Thank you for making this possible for me and I know I am not the only person who has benefited from this Trust. Continue to open doors for girls like myself whose only chance at a better life is through education.
