My name is Nontando Mbatha and I am 21 years old. I just recently graduated at the University of KwaZulu Natal with an undergraduate Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance and Economics and I am proud to say that my tertiary education was funded by the Thusani Trust (Tiger Brands) Bursary Scheme. I cannot even begin to express how grateful I am to the Thusani Trust and Career Wise. It is not only the financial burden that has been made lighter on my mother who is a single parent, but it is also the continuous support and encouragement that I have received from Career Wise that has kept me going. Every bursary progress meeting that I have attended always came at the right time and after every meeting I have always felt more confident, encouraged and just ready to face every academic challenge that came my way. I say this in all honesty!
I am currently doing my Honours degree in Business Finance at the University of KwaZulu Natal and even though it is quite challenging I have confidence that all the sacrifices and hard work will pay off in the end. Although I may come across as the reserved and quiet type, I would also say that I am quite a go getter because once I set my mind on something I strive towards getting it. It is my great desire to go into the Developmental Finance sector after attaining my Honours degree this year and I look forward to playing my part in the corporate world and in society as well as gaining more knowledge and acquiring skills.
Career Wise and the Thusani Trust Bursary scheme has played a substantial role in where and who I am today, and I can only hope that I will make these two entities proud once again.
