My name is Johnathan Muzikayise Mtshweni, from Mpumalanga in Middelburg. I was raised by a domestic worker and a petrol attendant. Just like any other driven young person, growing up I always dreamed of one day becoming a Chartered Accountant. But due to financial difficulties and considering the exorbitant university costs, a dream of becoming a Chartered accountant was all that, just a dream.
“Unkulunkulu emuhle njalo, uzongipha Amandla” Through God’s grace and mercy I received a scholarship from Anglo American which funded me from 1st year until postgrad studies. If it wasn’t for the scholarship, I wouldn’t be where I am today. What is amazing about it is that it wasn’t just financial assistance, through career wise I received a mentor who kept on checking me out and ensuring that I’m well all the time. And for that, I’m grateful.
I obtained a Bachelor of Accounting science degree as well as my postgrad qualification (CTA) at the University of Johannesburg. I’m currently serving articles (trainee accountant) at Ernst and young, Johannesburg in Sandton. In three years from now, I’ll be a qualified chartered accountant.
I’m really grateful for the opportunity that was granted to me and for believing me.
