On the 1st of December 2019, the Amended Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) Act came into effect and increased the opportunity for many young black students to receive bursaries for their tertiary studies. The amendment has introduced a new scorecard indicator, which has led to a few challenges for businesses including: How to go about starting a Bursary Scheme? Once in place, how to claim points under Skills Development? What are the qualifying line items to be covered under the Bursary Scheme to support a student meaningfully? Can the Bursary Scheme be administered by a 3rd party and if so what are the benefits?

Career Wise is perfectly positioned to assist with these challenges: DROP US A MESSAGE BELOW. We will reach out to you for the next step. In the meantime consider this:

“ How can Career Wise assist you in claiming maximum points under the Skills Development element of the B-BBEE codes for having a Bursary programme?

Career Wise not only has the experience, infrastructure and capacity to recruit and select students for the bursary as per your requirements (race, gender, discipline, institution) but we can give 100% assurance that the entire spend will only be on education lines items qualifying under the B-BBEE code. We have a recruitment database of more than 20 000 students to select from around the country across many different disciplines. We have also been managing bursaries for more than 20 years and have achieved full compliance under numerous B-BBEE audits.

Not only can we ensure full compliance for any bursary spend under the Skills Development element of the code, but we can also assist with recruitment and placement for any graduate or internship programmes. Such placements offer a further 6 points to claim under Skills Development for absorbing the students. If you already have such programmes in place, we can align the bursary to the needs of the internship or graduate programme so that the bursary scheme serves as a pipeline thereby ensuring maximum points are gained for the expenditure.

“Can the fee charged by Career Wise be claimed as part of your spend towards bursaries? “

Career Wise charges a Bursary Support Fee which will be 10% of the overall expenditure disbursed for the students. This fee we charge is for the ‘wrap-around’ support we provide students on the bursary in the form of the following:

  • Mentorship
  • Tutoring Support
  • Bursar Development (i.e. life skills workshops)
  • Campus Progress visits once per semester
  • Administration of relevant allowances
  • Payment of tuition fees
  • Reporting and interpretation of results every semester.
